Jilin University

Jilin University is among the top ten leading national universities in China, which covers a complete range of disciplinary programs. The University has eight campuses in six districts, which are home to forty-three colleges teaching a student population of 630,000; including both undergraduate and graduate students.
The University boasts 6 national key laboratories, and 8 national bases for the development of basic science. Other resources include 5 research bases for humanities and social sciences, 9 key laboratories sponsored by the Ministry of Education and 14 by other ministries of Chinese government.

Jilin University offers a variety of degree programs. It has now 122 undergraduate programs, 285 master’s degree program, 195 doctoral degree programs, and 37 post-doctoral programs. At present there are 6,220 faculty members, with 18 members of Chinese Academy of Science and/or Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 1,604 full professors.

Norman Bethune College Of Medicine

The medical college was founded by Norman Bethune in September 1939 in Tang county of Hebei Province in China. Since then, the institution has trained over thirty thousand medical professionals and contributed a lot in the development of medical science, medical education and public health in China. It also has played an essential role in the development of medicine in China.
After the merger with Jilin University, much emphasis has been laid on the development of medical education. The Medical College was named after the outstanding Canadian thoracic surgeon because of his selfless devotion to the Chinese people as a whole.

Norman Bethune College of Medicine provides a wide range of programs. Full-time undergraduate programs include Clinical Medicine (of five years, six years, seven years and eight years), Dental Medicine, Chinese Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, etc. In undergraduate programs, there are 2000 Chinese students, 237 international students studying MBBS program in English with the first batch successfully graduating in 2011 and about 100 international students studying in various programs in Chinese.

Besides the undergraduate programs, the college offers 2 post-doctoral programs (Basic Medicine and Clinical Medicine), 2 first-level doctoral programs, 24 second-level doctoral programs, 45 master’s degree programs, which cover all the specialties.
All the doctoral programs and master’s degree programs covering all the clinical medicine specialties are available for international students who want to work on master’s or doctoral degree in Norman Bethune College of Medicine. Now the college has 4552 faculty and staff members in which there are 82 doctoral and 377 master’s degree advisors.

Moreover, Norman Bethune College of Medicine is active in international cooperation and exchange programs, and has established partnerships with 26 educational institutions and academic organizations in many countries and districts such as Japan, Canada, USA, Great Britain, Sweden and Hong Kong.

1.School of Basic Medicine

The School of Basic Medicine was founded in May 1949 as the Basic Medicine Department of Norman Bethune University of Medical Science. It is the basic medical education and research base of Norman Bethune Medical College.

The school consists of 18 teaching and research departments: human anatomy, histology and embryology, physiology, biochemistry, pathogenic biology, immunology, pathology, pathological physiology, law, pharmacology, genetics molecular biology, etc.

Important research center and laboratories include the Pathological Biology Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, Research Center for Prostate Disease, Jilin Province Medicolegal Expertise Center, and Japanese Language Training Center for Shichuan Medical Scholarship of the Ministry of Health, Electronic Microscope Lab Center, etc. The school has presently 252 faculty and administrative staff members, including 35 professors (24 are doctoral advisors), 46 associate professors and 44 instructors. It offers three post-doctoral, seven doctoral and eight master’s degree programs. The Institute has provided the society with large numbers of high-level teachers of basic medical education since it was established, and the teachers and doctors graduated from the Institute have actively emerged in the front-line of domestic and international basic medical education and research and most of them have become academic leaders or key members.

The School has attracted large number of Chinese Scholars studying abroad to return because of favorable policies which have greatly improved the quality of education.

The main fields of research include genetic engineering, immunity, bioengineering, development of traditional Chinese medicine, pharmacology, bi-disciplinary system, neurophysiology, genetic toxicology, tumor pathology, cardiovascular physiological pathology, reproductive pathology, virology, etc.
The school has made a large number of achievements in research. 19 provincial or higher level research projects have been successfully completed and over 1100 articles have been published. The school is honored as a model unit by Jilin University and the provincial government.

After the merger, with special support from the 211 Project and the Tenth Five-year Plan, floor space for laboratory has been expanded and cutting-edge equipments and facilities added. The school is now undertaking a number of key projects from the Ministry of Education, Jilin Province and some enterprises. The school is also responsible for teaching basic medical courses to the students from many majors such as clinical medicine (seven-year and five-year programs), radioactive medicine, preventive medicine, information management and information system (medical information management), medical law, stomatological medicine, pharmacology, nursing and multi-track adult education.
